As human beings, we need outlets and inlets where we gain nourishment for our souls and selves in order to grow and get in touch with our deepest, truest sense of self. This is where Hairpolitan steps in; for years now women living with natural hair and adopting natural lifestyles have had to rely on bloggers, Facebook groups and Whatsapp to learn more about their hair and also get products catering to their hair.

Hairpolitan is founded on the principle of convenience and provides a detailed in depth examination of natural hair and natural living. I have for a very long time had to keep mum when ladies in groups talk about length chasing, Big Ass Afros (BAA), Teeny Weeny Afro (TWAs), oil rinsing and other things, mainly because I wasn’t an all out adopter of every “fad” or trend. In the Oxford Dictionary, you’ll find my mug shot right under the definition of Lazy Natural.

For a very long time, I flat out refused to just deep condition my hair because the processes I saw online were just that- processes. They were too detailed and too complex, or so I thought. Then I had a chat with a friend and she showed me how to care for my hair and showed me how to twist and knot my hair for more definition and styling. This was way back in 2011 when I had a luscious fro. After some time and due to time and imagination constraints, I Big Chopped (BC’d) again and I learnt that it’s ok not to chase length, style your hair to the nines or be a tad too overzealous on the hair care front. I keep my hair short, still care for it using a simple regimen and once in a while will experiment with different hair care and natural living solutions.

Hairpolitan exists because we need to have everything about our hair and lives as accessible as possible to the hordes of Naturalistas we know. We also need to build each other up and stand firm in everyone’s corner as we embark on this natural journey. Is your hair falling out? The root cause may be directly linked to nutrition or even stress, so while we address the physical you, we also want to reach out to the spiritual and emotional you.

Hairpolitan is an amalgamation of information that is available in fragmented bits all over the Internet; you come to us broken in one way or another and leave whole and healed after a quick thumb-through our pages. We exist for more than just your hair; our hearts beat for the whole you.
